Green Woodwork Courses In West Dorset

We offer a range of project-based courses suitable for men, women, experienced woodworkers and complete novices alike, all year round. Our regular courses are for adults; we also offer children's woodwork courses and these are suitable for everyone aged ten and up.

All our courses are held in woodland by Higher Holditch Farm, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near both Axminster and Bridport, Dorset, part of the Jurassic Coast 'World Heritage Site'. That means we have some of the best countryside and coastline in the West Country here. It's an ideal spot for a short break or a longer holiday.

You will have use of a set of very high quality tools and we provide all the materials that you will need to complete the projects. Our materials are personally and locally sourced from sustainable, managed woodland.

We work with green (unseasoned) wood because
it offers the opportunity to see the whole process through - from log to end product. Being unseasoned it is soft and easy to work, whether for carving or turning using a pole lathe. The hand craft techniques and the types of wooden equipment we use and teach are ancient, dust-free and quiet.

The course location is itself idyllic - in a woodland clearing which we've made cool and shady in summer, warm and cosy in winter. Our guests often remark that they have enjoyed spending a day or two in the peace and quiet of the woods just as much as they have enjoyed the woodwork.
