In this issue:
First things first - we're now able to confirm the dates for our bowl carving courses throughout the rest of the year.
Jul: Thu 20th/Fri 21st
Aug: Sat 26th/Sun 27th
Sep: Thu 21st/Fri 22nd
Oct: Thu 19th/Fri 20th
Nov: Thu 23rd/Fri 24th
Dec: Thu 14th/Fri 15th
We have a special price for the July course of £200.00 + VAT because it's quite short notice; for all the other dates the cost is £250.00 + VAT. So, if you can come in July you'll save yourself £50, which can't be bad.

Whatever date suits you, do book up quickly. No, this is not me doing the hard sell. I say this because course places are limited, we've now started advertising nationally and I'd hate our faithful mailing list members to miss out.
Of course, bowl carving is only one of the courses we're going to be running. The next is probably going to focus on pole lathe turning - more about that in the next edition of the newsletter.
By the way, we are also able to arrange dates by specific arrangement - for instance for group or corporate bookings (the minimum group size is eight people). Do get in touch if this is of interest - guy@mallinson.uk.com or phone 01308 485 111.

As always, more information about the courses is available on the web site - www.mallinson.uk.com - and there you'll also find our new links page. It's not just a bunch of boring old links to irrelevant sites. The point of the page is to provide anyone coming to a course with some useful pointers to local information, places to stay, other courses, craftsmen and what-have-you. It's very much 'version one', but I think you'll find what's already there is helpful.
I hope everyone who comes on our courses views the time as something of a holiday as well as an opportunity to learn. But what about other halves, left back at home while you're having fun with bits of wood? With absolutely no presumptions about gender whatsoever, why don't they go on a cookery course at the same time? I say that, not least, because just down the road from us is River Cottage HQ and up the road is the Lesley Waters Cookery School. (More information about both can be found via the links page on our site.) It seems to me that that has to be a great way for a couple to spend a couple of days - one half learning to do things with wood, the other learning to do things with food!
The June bowl carving course, our first down here in Dorset, has now been and gone and ... it was brilliant! We - myself and James - really enjoyed teaching it, and all the students said they really enjoyed attending it.

Held down in the woods, it's a long way away from the courses we used to run back when we were based in London workshops, and all the better for it. The word 'therapeutic' has been mentioned, among other (nice) comments. It ended with the students keen to come back for more and we really do hope to see everyone again over the coming months and years. Our thanks to everyone who attended and for all the feedback received: it's appreciated.
One specific point that we're working on is the comment that after having been able to try out a wide variety of good quality tools during the course, it would have been helpful to be able to buy some. So, yes, we're now looking into being able to sell tools too and that should be in place by the July course.
And I think that's it for now. Thanks for reading, and hopefully I'll see you on a course soon.
