Pole Lathe Turning

As mentioned in the June newsletter, we're pleased to announce that we're now taking bookings for our new Pole Lathe Turning courses. No previous experience is necessary!

We know from the feedback we've had that a lot of people are keen to learn how to turn using a Pole Lathe and let's face it, it's hard to resist the charms of this ancient, relaxing and very satisfying way of working. So, come down for a two day course. The dates for 2006 are:

Sep: Thu 14th/Fri 15th
Oct: Thu 12th/Fri 13th
Nov: Thu 16th/Fri 17th
Dec: Thu 7th / Fri 8th

and the cost is £250.00 + VAT.

The September course will be run by myself and Mace Brightwater, a coppice craftsman dedicated to sharing the pleasures of the 'tree-to-product' process. He is also an experienced teacher, not least of pole lathe turning with Mike Abbott of 'Living Wood' fame.

Whatever date suits you, do book up quickly: to ensure good quality, personal tuition, places on all courses are strictly limited.

Just a reminder, the Bowl Carving course dates for the rest of the year are:

Aug: Sat 26th/Sun 27th
Sep: Thu 21st/Fri 22nd
Oct: Thu 19th/Fri 20th
Nov: Thu 23rd/Fri 24th
Dec: Thu 14th/Fri 15th

Reserve A Course Place

In response to several requests we've now added this option on the website. In a nutshell, you can now reserve a place on a course regardless of the time of day (or night) you're reading this and/or looking at the website. Fill in your details, pick your course and date and hit 'send' - we've tried to ensure it couldn't be simpler.

Give A Course

No, by 'give' I don't mean teach a course! I mean give someone one of our courses as a gift. Again, this is something we've been asked for and we're happy to oblige with gift certificates, either for a specific course and date or just for a course with the date to be confirmed at the recipient's convenience. And we can arrange invoicing to a separate address if discretion is required. You can book a course as a gift either via phone, email or the website.

New Links

To go with all this new course and website activity, we've been expanding the links page on the site too. As with the launch version of this page, the links are there because (we hope) they're going to be useful to visitors. Included amongst the new additions, a Chilli course! So, a holiday in Dorset for a couple could now mean coming back well-versed in the delights of Chillis and Pole Lathes. That can't be a bad way to spend a few days.

A New (Old) Domain

Anyone who has known us for a few years will know we used to be 'mallinson.co.uk'. And the eagle-eyed will have noticed I've started using it again in the items above. Well, thanks to some low-life domain name hijacker we lost control of the name for a while but we're pleased to say we now have it back - and it's now safely managed for us. (We are keeping ownership of 'mallinson.uk.com' though, so if you email us at an old address or go to the old website, you'll still come to the right place.)

Important: after this edition, future newsletters will come from newsletter@mallinson.co.uk, rather than newsletter@mallinson.uk.com. So, if you have set up spam filters etc to allow for the old address, please adjust them accordingly. Thanks.

And I think that's it for now. Thanks for reading, and hopefully I'll see you on a course soon.
