We offer a wide range of project-based courses in a peaceful woodland setting. Courses range from carving a bowl or a totem pole to charcoal drawing or weaving a basket.
All our courses are held in woodland by Higher Holditch Farm, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near both Axminster and Bridport, Dorset, part of the Jurassic Coast 'World Heritage Site'. It's a perfect spot for a short break or a longer holiday and there's an excellent variety of accommodation nearby, from simple B&Bs to boutique hotels.
The course location is idyllic - in a woodland clearing which we've made cool and shady in summer, warm and cosy in winter. The craft techniques and the types of wooden equipment we use and teach are ancient, dust-free and quiet. Our guests often remark that they have enjoyed spending a day or two in the peace of the woods just as much as they have enjoyed the course.
All our courses are suitable for men, women, experienced woodworkers and artists and complete novices alike, all year round. Our regular courses are for adults; we also offer children's woodwork courses and these are suitable for everyone aged 10 and up. We provide all the materials that are needed to complete the projects and our materials are personally and locally sourced.
Our woodland is also available for hire - as a venue for private parties, team-building events or family or group outings, it's simply a great place to be!
Whether you are carving a bowl, working on a pole lathe or using a shaving horse; weaving a basket, creating a totem pole or drawing with charcoal, we're sure that your time with us will be memorable and enjoyable, and relaxing too. We look forward to welcoming you.
