We provide a high quality, adult-only luxury glamping experience for our guests. With over 10 years of experience, we take pride in providing everything our guests need to enjoy a unique, peaceful break. Our accommodation is in a hand-crafted environment set in our own uncrowded, quiet private woodland of about 10 acres. You are welcome to stay with us whether or not you are joining one of our courses.
All of our accommodation features king-sized beds provided with linen, towels etc, to ensure an unforgettable - and comfortable - night's sleep. Our guests often comment on how comfortable the beds, mattresses and toppers are. The dual control electric blankets make sure you can fine-tune your sleep to perfection.
Each tent has its own private clearing or deck, ensuring privacy and seclusion. We are always working to ensure all the site's facilities are of similarly high quality too - from private, proper flushing loos to our famous piping hot 'tree showers' and our sauna-in-a-yurt.
Crafty Camping is set in a beautiful woodland that many of our visitors have described as magical - something akin to Avatar in summer and Narnia in winter! It's tranquil and uncrowded and very near to the Jurassic Coast 'World Heritage Site'. We're nestling in the glorious West Dorset countryside and just a stone's throw from East Devon and South Somerset too.
Take your pick between two yurts called Poppet and Coracle and a tipi called Hoppus, or perhaps try our shepherd's hut - called Bodger. These yurts, tipi and shepherd's hut each have their own private shower, washing facilities and flushing toilet.
We also have a luxury bell tent, Twybil. This has a custom-made canvas flysheet to ensure the inner tent is dry whatever the weather, and is built on a deck so it is above ground. It shares a wonderful woven willow hot shower, washing and proper flushing toilet facilities (his and hers).
Please see the left hand menu, above, for more details and larger photo galleries.
Whichever of our accommodation you opt for, you'll be sleeping in a king-sized bed provided with bed linen, duvets and pillows. With oak head boards, electricity sockets for charging phones etc, lighting and electric blankets - together with heated towel rails and log burners - you'll have everything you need for a cosy stay. It will be a quiet, peaceful time too, in a child-free environment and with your own private, secluded decking or clearing.
Outside each of the tents and the shepherd's hut, there is a fire pit and BBQ, Kelly Kettle for boiling water and rustic wooden dining table with camping chairs to sit on. Also included:
- cold box and ice packs, and there is also a shared fridge in the field kitchen
- biodegradable soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner
- BBQ tool kit
- reindeer skins
- electricity point
- wood burner
- electric blankets
- heated towel rails
- bed linen, duvets and pillows
- starter basket of logs and firelighters
- pots and pans for your private BBQ
Self Check-In / A Quiet Stay
We aim to offer a magical, peaceful experience from the moment you arrive. Your arrival instructions will tell you all you need to know and you don't need to feel hassled about arriving 'on time'. Even if you arrive at night, our ground-level lights will show you the way, lighting-up as you walk to your new home in the woods. Find your way to us in your own time, explore your accommodation, discover all the site has to offer and, well, just relax. We think you'll find everything is just as you hoped.
We are always contactable if there is a problem or emergency and, of course, we're sometimes on site too, but we don't expect you to have to find us to say you've arrived and we're very happy if you prefer to just come and go in quiet anonymity. You can be sure that we certainly won't be bothering you.
Things To Do
We are very close to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and there is no shortage of things to do in the area. We are also very well provided-for with excellent places to dine. Please see our 'Things To Do' links for some suggestions and further links - and do remember to book up in advance for many of the things we mention as places are often limited and do sell-out. Of course, you can always join in on one of our weekday courses too - full details are here.
Access statement: There is a five minute walk down from the car park to the Woodland Workshop and Crafty Camping facilities. This path is well drained, lit at night and made of stone scalpings and wood-chip but is not suitable for wheelchair or limited mobility access. There are also boardwalks within the woods to some of the tents and to the shared sauna yurt; these are roped off on one side but open on the other where the drop to the marshy ground is small. Visitors with limited mobility and wheelchair users can be driven to the main workshop area by special arrangement by 4x4. The shared flushing loos have ramps and space for wheelchair users, however the rest of the site is by its nature not suitable for wheelchairs. Please contact us, email@example.com, to discuss any specific requirements.
Important Things To Note
Unfortunately we cannot accept dogs with campers or course guests - sorry.
In order to maintain the atmosphere and look of the Woodland Workshop we do not allow additional tents or camper vans in the woods.
Our guests, neighbours and the team here all value the magical, peaceful atmosphere in the woods and therefore we have a strict 'no noise' policy. The site is not suitable for parties with music and shouting and amplified music is strictly prohibited. Sitting round the campfire very gently strumming on a guitar and chatting with friends over a few drinks is more like it!
Our Crafty Camping has been designed and built to be comfortable all year round - glamping doesn't need to be just for summer. All of our tents have log burners, heated towel rails and electric blankets to keep you warm and toasty even in snowy conditions, and there is always the sauna if you want to venture out of your tent, along with the shared facilities. You really cannot beat a crisp winter day in the woods, snuggled under a plump down duvet with a good book.
There is just one caveat, which is that while our en suite loos and showers are all the better for being outside in the woods most of the time, where the water pipes come out of the ground (e.g. for taps or showers) there really is very little we can do to prevent these freezing if there's a prolonged and very hard frost. These are fairly rare events, usually occurring for just a few days of the year historically, but when it does happen then you may find that your accommodation's personal facilities are frozen. Naturally, at times like these we work to get everything up and running again at the earliest opportunity!
